As I am ending the year 2021, It was time for me to read/listen to something that inspire me to jump in 2022. It was no better time to read the memoir of Indra Nooyi. Indra Nooyi as an Indian American Pepsi CEO – I have followed the interviews on youtube. I was looking forward to understanding her journey from India to the USA, how she lead one of the iconic companies in the world – the challenges, learnings, struggles, and most importantly how can I use it in my life.
It’s so mesmerizing to hear her voice as she starts her book from childhood in Chennai, India. She talks about the family, culture – It’s great to see how she paints the picture. Truly speaking, It took me to my childhood, and can picture how it will be in the 1970s and 1980s. The reference of Godrej almirah, talking about the curd vs Yogurt, and the initial feeling of scared and excitement from the first trip from India is just feeling the same that oh she felt the same as I had experienced – just chuckled me.
The Journey of the initial struggle of understanding culture, fitting in the school, understanding the accent, and how to be effective in communication. One of the examples she mentioned was her experience of saying Connecticut. I still feel I may be still facing the same 🙂
The learning experience from her consulting days to Pepsico is so much to learn from starting from be the efficient communicator, know the end-to-processes, be the change you want to be. You should not be complacement work hard, job title doesn’t define your work, take the resposnbility to grow and throw your accomplishment when you are in your family or releationship.
I really admired her work ethics – everyone needs to work hard and no one is just be lucky and new opportunities comes up on their laps.
# Work Hard, Learn New Skills, Push your Limit, Don’t be complacent
If you reach the floor with no learnings, better to look for a new house – Learn and Grow is important.
